Flor Reyes Cortez, who has worked as a dietary aide at Maryville since August 2015, is our November 2017 Employee of the Month. During her time at Maryville, Flor has learned and performed many different duties in the kitchen. She prepares meals for residents and assumes dishwashing duties.
Nutrition Services Director Liz Fochtman said, “Flor is a very hard worker and always willing to help out when needed. If there is a shift to be covered, you can count on Flor. She is prompt, accurate and quick on her feet.”
Born in Michoacan, Mexico, Flor came to the United States in 1988. She has three children: two sons, Roy and Arturo, and a daughter, Joceline, whose own time at Maryville led to her mother’s success there.
While she was in high school, Joceline worked in Maryville’s dietary department. When Joceline went to college in southern Oregon, Flor decided to apply for a position at Maryville.
Always hard-working, Flor will tell you that one of her proudest accomplishments is raising her children by herself and putting them through college. She values her time at Maryville for providing meaningful, full-time work with benefits.
In her spare time, Flor says she enjoys “spending time with her grandchildren – and sleeping.”
When it’s time for her own meals, she loves enchiladas and tamales – especially when someone else prepares them. Flor says she is happy to do the dishes.
Congratulations to our November 2017 Employee of the Month: Flor Reyes Cortez!
